The Veterans' Group Life Insurance (VGLI) program is administered by the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and offers life insurance coverage to Veterans who are discharged from active military service.
The amount of coverage you can purchase under the VGLI program is based on the amount of coverage you had under the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) program. You can convert all or part of your SGLI coverage to VGLI, up to the maximum amount of $400,000.
Your VGLI premiums will be based on your age, the amount of coverage you have, and whether you smoke.
The average monthly premium for a $400,000 VGLI policy for a 40-year-old nonsmoker is about $49 per month.
