• Get in touch with the insurer: The first step is to get in touch with the insurer. You can do this by visiting the company’s branch office or by calling the customer care number.
• Inform the insurer about the incident: Once you have got in touch with the insurer, you need to inform them about the incident. You will have to provide all the details about the incident.
• Submit the required documents: After you have informed the insurer about the incident, you will have to submit the required documents. The documents vary from policy to policy. But, generally, you will have to submit the police report, FIR, medical reports, etc.
• The insurer will then investigate the claim: Once you have submitted the required documents, the insurer will investigate the claim. They will examine all the documents and then decide whether to accept or reject the claim.
• If the claim is accepted, the insurer will settle the claim: If the insurer finds that the claim is valid, they will settle the claim. The settlement will be made in the form of cash or cheque.
